Jessica Boualavong – LEAP 1/2 Cape Town
2012 Teacher Training Fellow

“Not every student will love science enough to be a scientist, and this will be a challenge for me to overcome. But all children will become citizens of the world and their opinions and skills as a critical thinker contribute to the global laws, economy and environment. Education is a global initiative, and I wish to do my part teaching and learning from teachers and students beyond San Francisco.”

Jessica’s passion for teaching science to students comes through immediately upon meeting her. Jessica is currently a 7th and 8th grade science intern teacher and a part of the immersive teacher training program at the Town School for Boys in San Francisco. Concurrently, she is finishing her teaching credential at San Francisco State after having received her B.S. from the University of Maryland in Physiology and Neurobiology. Jessica also is taking part in the National Science Teacher Association’s New Science Teacher Academy Fellowship. Jessica is incredibly proactive when it comes to using technology in the classroom, something she views as an invaluable tool. Jessica is enthusiastic about continuing to collaborate with teachers, this time at the LEAP School and use her science and technology expertise in the classroom.
