“I learned that a relationship is based on mutual respect, and that in order for us to connect authentically, I had to be intentional and genuine with my approach to overcome these barriers. I learned to be humble, and to expose my vulnerabilities. I had to reveal our commonalities, guide the both of us in learning each other’s backgrounds, cultures, conditions and experiences. As a teacher, I have utilized these lessons, which has allowed me to teach effectively, serve compassionately, and develop and maintain the mutual respect needed in all relationships.”
