“To my surprise, teaching became a fun, creative outlet for me and, also, another way to honor my mom.  It turns out that my mother never wanted me to go into medicine; unless, it was something I was passionate about doing.  What my mother really wanted was to see me stand strong with my convictions and be happy.  Today, I can honestly say that I thoroughly enjoy teaching and, thanks to my mom, it has and always will be a part of me.”

Teaching has been a staple in Amir’s family for generations, from his grandfather to his mother and now him. Amir earned his BS from UC Berkeley in Molecular Environmental Biology. Upon graduating, Amir headed for El Salvador with the Peace Corps where he taught environmental and health education. After his two-year commitment, Amir returned to teach at Aim High, a non-profit school that caters to inner-city youth. There he truly hit his stride and is now the lead science enrichment specialist at Marin Preparatory School where he is constantly working to cater to his students creative learning styles and empower his young scholars.
