Carli Lowe – LEAP 1/2 Cape Town
2012 Teacher Training Fellow

“What I enjoy is the give and take that happens in a classroom, problem-solving to find a new way to bring your students to the “aha!” moment, and learning from my students at least as much as I teach them.”

Carli’s path towards being a teacher was almost accidental. After years of tutoring and teaching dance students, she realized how much she truly enjoyed being a part of other people’s learning process and decided to make it official and take her talents to the classroom. Six years later she is now a head teacher at Children’s Day School in San Francisco, teaching third graders everything from established school curriculum to social justice and global perspectives. From 2007 to 2009, Carli taught at the International Community School in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Her experience there helped teach her about the broad implications of her profession and she knows that a trip to the LEAP schools will only enhance that perspective.
