Colleen Green – LEAP 6 GaRankuwa, Pretoria
2012 Teacher Training Fellow

“I just simply feel drawn to South Africa and want to immerse myself in the communities and cultures I hope to visit, to come to know and love the country and the people as my colleagues have, and to establish a lasting connection to another part of the world, and her people that, while very different from where I currently live, I hope will become inextricably linked to who I am as traveler, an educator and as a person.”

Since the day she started babysitting as a teenager, Colleen has been teaching and now she could not imagine doing anything else. Colleen has been inspiring classrooms across the country since 2000 and is currently a 9th grade humanities teacher at High Tech High in San Diego. At High Tech High she has played many roles, from a junior teacher to the director of the school. After seeing numerous colleagues travel to Africa, Colleen is excited to share her own expertise while at LEAP and continue her own journey as a life-long learner.
