“Some of the best moments happen when students are encouraged to think outside of the box and actively grow as learners.  The challenge every year is to have students go out into the world and be inspired by what they find.  I try to encourage the students to become life-long learners and tie learning into their own interests and passions.”

David has worked as a math and physics teacher at High Tech High Media Arts in San Diego for the past 5 years. Along with teaching he is finishing his master’s degree in teacher education and leadership, with his thesis on ‘incorporating puzzles and play into the classroom to increase divergent thinking, perseverance, and motivation.’ Also, David, along with his teaching partner, recently won The Global Microsoft Partners in Learning Innovation in the Classroom competition for Knowledge Building and Critical Thinking. David is thrilled to head to South Africa and combine his passion for teaching and his desire for a meaningful travelling opportunity.
