Mallory LaPeruto – LEAP 1/2 Cape Town
2012 Teacher Training Fellow

“My decision to become a teacher was based on the life changing effects education had on my own life. I believe education is the key to stopping the cycle of poverty, ignorance, unhappiness, and so many other ailments society suffers from. I am so proud to say that I am part of a social revolution at KIPP that I always knew was necessary. My mission is to bring my commitment to education to as many people as possible.”

Mallory has taught 8th grade Algebra since 2008 at KIPP: Ascend Charter School in Chicago. Prior to that, she student taught middle school students in math, reading, and social studies. She holds a BS in Elementary Education with a Concentration in Mathematics from DePaul University in Chicago. Mallory’s passion community development is manifested through art and service learning projects she develops for her students. Her love for teaching math stems from being able to teach children to think critically and independently, and to be able to solve any problem, math or life related, that they come across. Mallory was a 2011 Teach With Africa Fellow in Cape Town.
