Suzanne Evans, Teacher Trainer

Learning is a lifelong process and is constructed as individuals interact with others and the world and make personal connections.  I am passionate about literacy as a tool for  meeting individual needs and helping each individual meet their potential within a just and equitable environment.  It is an honor and privilege to be a teacher and it is with great excitement, anticipation and humility that I join the team this year!”

Dr. Suzanne Evans is truly a renaissance woman in the field of education, doing everything from teaching fulltime to working on community health projects, and from curriculum development to teacher training. Dr. Evans currently serves as Core faculty in the School of Education at Pacific Oaks College where she teaches and develops curriculum.  Along with her teaching and teacher training experience, Dr. Evans’ research focuses on multicultural literature, professional development with teachers, literacy instruction, and cultural competency, which will all be invaluable tools while in South Africa. Dr. Evans brings a wealth of preschool and teacher training years and experience to the TWA team. She originally came to Pacific Oaks after a multitude of years as a preschool, elementary and special education teacher. She also served as a trainer at the Reading First Academy, where she taught teachers the best practices in literacy instruction and was a “Coach of Coaches” in a county office of education.  Dr. Evans earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from Northern Illinois University, her Master of Science in Recreation Administration from San Francisco State University and her doctoral degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Aurora University. She holds numerous teaching certificates including National Board Certification.
