Announcing 2013 TWA Faculty-in-Residence Team

This summer, Teach With Africa proudly welcomes a team of 10 highly experienced and passionate teachers from the US who will each spend 2-6 weeks volunteering in South Africa. Our impressive team of Faculty-in-Residence teachers leading the Future Leaders’ Summit and collaborating across the 6 LEAP Science and Maths School Campuses includes: Jamie Brandt (Science, The Governor’s Academy), Nayo Brooks (Multi-Subject Primary, Katherine Delmar Burke School), Kay Flewelling (Humanities, High Tech High), and Dr. Don Mackay (Science, High Tech High International).

We also welcome two faculty from Pacific Oaks College as ECD Teacher Trainers in our Early Childhood Development Program working with twenty rural preschools in the Singita Sabi Sand network of Mpumalanga Province.  Cary McKay and Kathy Ramirez are spending a month conducting professional development trainings for a group of 40+ preschool teachers and principals, as well as intensive mentoring with five preschools that Singita supports.

Another exciting new program that we are supporting this August, the edTech Summit for LEAP Educators, will be held for one week each in Cape Town and in Johannesburg, focused on using technology to empower student learning. This program is spearheaded by Karen Page, TWA Board member and Faculty-in-Residence for the past four years, who is piloting this innovative Summit. The hands-on active workshops will be presented by a team of US and South African teachers in partnership with K2 Productions Global, Teach With Africa, and Edunova.  Look for our edTech team bios in the next newsletter.

IMG_2895It is said that once you visit Africa, the Continent becomes a part of you and you are sure to return. This year, we are proud to have four returning TWA Fellows: Jamie Brandt, Kay Flewelling, Howard McCoy, and Karen Page.
