Teach With Africa and Global Teachers Institute: Impactful Partnership

Many of you had the opportunity to meet our Educator Exchange interns at the 12th Annual ‘Expanding our Horizons’ Gala last March, during their month-long stay in the San Francisco Bay Area from March 1-April 1.  Because of your support, by the end of the program, interns had formed unbreakable bonds with their host families and host school mentors – many of whom remain in touch after the exchange. The trip was impactful to each individual and these experiences were shared at the Summit, together with the Action Research compiled during the trip.

“I am having a wonderful time exploring the city of San Francisco. Spending time at Gateway High School has opened up a world of unending educational opportunities for me. My research on equal educational practices is coming on strong! It is also fascinating to be in city that cares about and acknowledges differences. It is liberation in its purest form!”

In addition to supporting the Educator Exchange Program, your donation funds our summer partnership with GTI, the TWA Fellowship Program.  This program takes place annually with teachers arriving from the United States arrive in South Africa to take part in the GTI Axis Summit. Fellows are then placed in South African host schools for the rest of their stay, where they gain experiential learning in South African classrooms.

This year we had the privilege of hosting Crystal Polski for the first time and Clifford Sykes, who is a great supporter, returning for the 4th year. Fellows arrived in South African on Friday, 28th June. They spent the weekend with GTI staff touring Johannesburg and learning about the history of the City of Gold. They also had the pleasure of touring the largest township in Africa, Soweto and the history of the apartheid regime and the effects thereof.

None of this programming could have taken place without your help and for that we are all truly grateful.
