Students read letters about cuts to Oakland school board

 

Teach With Africa supports the exchange of ideas and resources between students and teachers in South Africa and the US. While our mission is to break down the economic and social barriers to education in Africa, today we also see economic barriers to education in the US.

The Oakland Unified School district is currently facing a $30 million budget reduction on top of last year’s $122 million in cuts. Last week, a group of sixth grade students stood before the Oakland school board to read letters about what they thought ought to be cut, and what ought to be saved, at their school next year.
