Join us for a fireside chat on Education for Hope, featuring South African global leaders Dr. Mamphela Ramphele and John Gilmour.
Date: March 11, 2026
Time: 5:00–7:00 p.m.
Teach With Africa, in partnership with LEAP Science and Maths Schools, the Global Teachers Institute, and the LEAP Institute, invites you to a Fireside Conversation exploring Education for Hope as a living movement rooted in deep collaboration. Teach With Africa’s reciprocal educator exchanges between Africa and the United States have helped seed partnerships that now extend into a growing global network of practice and action.

Set in San Francisco and grounded in a Global South lens, the evening will explore how partnership ecosystems can move beyond isolated projects toward sustained movement building, with examples from Africa, the United States, and beyond.
The conversation will open with Dr. Mamphela Ramphele, South African physician, social anthropologist, and global public leader. A co-founder of the Black Consciousness Movement alongside Steve Biko, former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Town, and former Managing Director at the World Bank, she now serves as Visiting Professor and Scholar-in-Residence at UCSF’s Institute for Global Health Sciences, bringing an African perspective to global health, leadership, and systems change.
She will be joined by John Gilmour, South African education innovator and founder of the LEAP Science and Maths Schools, a network serving learners from historically marginalized communities. Since 2004, LEAP has graduated more than 3,600 students with a pass rate above 96%, opening pathways into STEM careers. Through the LEAP Institute and Education for Hope, he advances transformational leadership grounded in Ubuntu, personal agency, and community-centered learning.
The discussion will be moderated by Flora Mugambi-Mutunga and will continue with U.S. partners including Brandon Nicholson of Hidden Genius and Julie Clugage of Team4Tech, along with additional education leaders. Together, we will explore how coalition, collaboration, and international alliance can transform Education for Hope from a shared vision into a sustained global movement.
This is a free event. No solicitations will occur. All who are interested in global education and collaboration are warmly welcome.
